British UKMT Maths Olympiad (i.e. Senior Math Challenge)

Most people will be aware of this Olympiad if they are familiar with any. Split into a qualifying round with several follow up rounds if you succeed in the earlier round, the Olympiad tests and stretches the limits of your logical and mathematical reasoning. Budding computer scientists will find preparing based on past UKMT papers to be great preparation for the CTMUA. Improving your mathematical reasoning skills helps with a variety of subjects in CompSci from Discrete Mathematics to Algorithms. Medals earned in the Olympiad can make great talking points in the personal statement – I know several people (including myself) who wrote about it in theirs.
