Dissertation Support Group

The Homerton Dissertation Support Group, run by the Library, is a drop-in group which meets every Tuesday for supported study.

Taking on a dissertation this year? Come along! We meet for a supported study session every Tuesday afternoon from 2pm in the Macaulay Room.

Researching and writing a dissertation can be a bit daunting, and sometimes a bit lonely.

Working in a Dissertation Support Group can make the whole thing a lot more friendly and entertaining.

Setting aside some quality time to spend with your dissertation can be a useful way of making sure you make a bit of progress on it every week, no matter what else is going on.

The Macaulay room (near the table tennis door to the HUS) is a lovely relaxing room with a big table plus sofas and armchairs to read in.

Both MPhil students and Undergraduates are welcome to come along and get some dissertation work done in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.  The Library will be supplying biscuits and hot drinks, but you can bring your own drinks or snacks if you prefer.

Most dissertation support sessions will be study sessions. Each session will be an hour working, followed by a tea/snack break, and then another hour working.

There may also be some sessions that will include presentations that have been designed specifically for dissertations, on subjects like how to choose a topic; how to create your own reading list; how to approach a first draft... that kind of thing.

You do not have to come along to every session or stay for the whole session. It is very much a drop-in group with no pressure.

Do not worry if you haven’t done much on your dissertation yet, or don't really know what you are doing! You won't be the only one!

Please email Rebecca at the library on rl623@cam.ac.uk if you would like more information or like to be added to the mailing list for presentations and study session reminders.

It would be great to see you there.
