Our Postgraduate Students had their graduation this weekend and some of them have shared their Homerton story.

My degree was in clinical neuroscience at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) and I studied the role of immune genes in modulating the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

When I chose Homerton College for my Postgraduate degree, I was looking for a friendly and welcoming college that was close enough to my department and slightly far from the busy town centre. Homerton was definitely the perfect choice! The peaceful and supportive environment of Homerton made me feel right at home despite being far from home as an international student. Homerton gave me the ideal environment to focus, think and study. I love the orchard area just behind Morley house. I spent so many hours there enjoying the quiet sunset, reading poetry and resting after a busy day.

My advice to prospective Postgraduate students

Doing a postgraduate degree can be incredibly challenging especially for international students. Times can become tough, but there’s tremendous amount of support available at the university and your college. Never hesitate to ask for help:)

Join a club
I joined the rowing team for a year and I absolutely loved it. Rowing is a great team building sport and the Homerton rowing community were very friendly and welcoming towards novices such as myself.

Future plans
I’m planning to continue my research on the genetic risk factors of Alzheimer’s disease, initially in academia and potentially later in the industry.
