Homerton College Access and Outreach Programmes

Next Steps South Yorkshire

Who: Year 12 state school students living in South Yorkshire.

What: A free, online webinar series to help you gain the knowledge and tools to apply to Oxford and Cambridge. This series is run collaboratively by Homerton and Emmanuel Colleges in Cambridge and Magdalen and Mansfield Colleges in Oxford!

When: Online sessions normally run from December to September. Applications open in November.

Scottish Webinar Series

Who: S4, S5 and S6 students from state schools in Scotland.

What: A free, online webinar series to help you gain the knowledge and tools to apply to Oxford and Cambridge. This series is run collaboratively by Homerton College and Pembroke College at the University of Cambridge!

When: Online sessions normally run from January to September. Applications open in December.

The Homerton College Higher Education Access Course

Who: Year 12 (or equivalent) state school students thinking of applying to Cambridge.

What: A free, online webinar series to help you gain the tools to apply to Cambridge! Sessions include interview workshops, Q&A with current students, personal statement workshops and more!

When: Online sessions run from February to April. Applications open in January.

Future Ready!

Who: Year 10/11 (or equivalent) state school students. Places are limited so priority will be given to those who meet the widening participation criteria set out in The University of Cambridge’s Access and Participation Plan.

WhatA free, online webinar series to help you develop the skills and tools you need to thrive at school and in higher education!

When: Online sessions run from from March to April with an in-person celebration event in April. Applications open in January/ February.

Homerton College Essay Programme

Who: Year 12 (or equivalent) students. Places are limited so priority will be given to those who meet the widening participation criteria set out in The University of Cambridge’s Access and Participation Plan.

WhatAre you interested in learning the skills to plan and write essays in the style of a university student on a topic you are passionate about? The Homerton College Essay Programme is for you! You will gain access to a series of workshops run by academics and students providing the grounding to produce your own essay in response to a choice of questions. After this, those whose essay is 'Highly Commended' will be invited to an all-expenses-paid three day residential at Homerton College!

When: Online sessions run from May to July with an in-person residential run in August. Applications open in Spring.

Homerton College Design Programme

Who: Year 12 (or equivalent) students. Places are limited so priority will be given to those who meet the widening participation criteria set out in The University of Cambridge’s Access and Participation Plan.

WhatAre you a budding designer, architect or engineer? The Homerton College Design Programme will help you to develop crucial university-level skills and thinking. You will gain access to a series of workshops run by academics and students, providing the grounding you need to produce your own sustainable design solution to any environmental problem that we are facing. After this, those whose design is 'Highly Commended' will be invited to an all-expenses-paid three day residential at Homerton College!

When: Online sessions run from May to July with an in-person residential run in August. Applications open in Spring.

Student Sustainability Conference

WhoYear 11/12 (or equivalent) state school students. Places are limited so priority will be given to those who meet the widening participation criteria set out in The University of Cambridge’s Access and Participation Plan.

WhatA student-led day conference where you will  learn, discover and collaborate with current Homerton students! Expect workshops, panel discussions, carousel activities and games, all linking to the theme of sustainability. There will also be tours of Homerton College running, as well as sustainable food on offer!

When: This annual conference usually takes place in August with applications open in Spring.

Scottish Residential

Who: S4/ S5 state school students

WhatAs we know that it would be too difficult for us to invite Scottish students down to Cambridge for a day visit, we are inviting Scottish students for a 4-day residential at Homerton College! You will get to visit the university and experience student life by staying at our college! You will also meet current students and take part in engaging academic taster sessions and information sessions about applying to Cambridge!

When: This residential is usually run in August with applications open in late Spring.

Tours of Homerton College

Who: Prospective Cambridge students in Year 11/12 (or equivalent)

What: If you would like to come and visit Homerton College, we run organised tours that are led by our fantastic Homerton student ambassadors.

When: Spring and Summer

Subject Focus Sessions

Who: Prospective Cambridge students in Year 12 (or equivalent)

WhatSubject Focus Sessions involve an introduction to Homerton College from a member of our Admissions Team, followed by a taster session to give you an insight into the subject at undergraduate level. To conclude, there will be a Q&A with current Homerton students. These sessions are open to all prospective Cambridge students. In previous years we have had Subject Focus Sessions in Law, Philosophy, Computer Science, Classics, Geography, Archaeology, History of Art, Maths, Natural Sciences and Engineering. Who: Prospective Cambridge students in Year 12 (or equivalent)

WhatCome and visit Homerton College on our July and September Open Days! You will get to meet current students, go on guided tours of the college, and meet our Admissions Tutors!
