Lauren Waszek obtained her BA, MSci, and PhD from the University of Cambridge prior to joining Homerton College as a Junior Research Fellow in 2012. She took up a Postdoctoral Research Associate position at the University of Maryland in 2015, subsequently moving to New Mexico State University as an Assistant Professor (2016-2020). Concurrently, she also held a Research Fellowship at the Australian National University (2017-2020). Lauren is currently a Lecturer in Physics at James Cook University.

Lauren is a global seismologist, and performs research into the seismic structure of Earth’s interior from the inner core to the upper mantle. The primary focus of her current work is the relationship between seismic observations, composition, and dynamical processes in Earth’s upper and mid-mantle, particularly the deflection of upwelling plumes and subducting slabs.
