Professor Gearóid ÓLaighin is Established Professor of Electronic Engineering at the National University of Ireland Galway in Galway city in the West of Ireland. He completed his undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering at UCC graduating with first class honours and for his PhD at NUI Galway carried out research on the application of neuromuscular electrical stimulation in stroke rehabilitation. His research interests are in the design of electronic medical devices, primarily for older adults and persons with disabilities. In this context he has over the last ten years developed a strong research interest in Human Centred Design and has published regularly on this topic. In 2022, Gearóid graduated from the University of Cambridge with a master’s degree in Entrepreneurship and he is currently in process of developing a campus company centred on a novel therapy for Parkinson’s disease. Gearóid is a Fulbright Scholar (2001) and a Homerton Changemaker (2019)
