Social life

Homerton is well-known for being one of the most sociable Cambridge colleges and this is reflected in the range of activities and events organised by our students.

Societies

We are home to a number of active societies, run exclusively by Homerton students. From Origami to the Allotment society, you are sure to find someone who shares your interests and if you don’t, the HUS JCR has funding available for you to set it up.

Nightclubbing in Cambridge

Cambridge is home to around three or four main nightclubs that students frequent. The closest to Homerton is Junction, which hosts two or three big events a term and which sees students from other colleges make their way down Hills Road.

Other clubs include MASH which hosts a range of different themed nights and Vinyl which is home to Glitterbomb on Tuesdays and Sunday Life. As well as these nights out, Homerton is well known for hosting one or two ‘Homerton Takeovers’ a term in one of these clubs, when our students head into town for one big College night out.

Events in College

As well as organised societies and events outside of College, many events are run within Homerton. The HUS welfare team are renowned for organising regular arts and crafts events. There are often quizzes held in the Griffin bar and popular football and sports matches are often screened in the Buttery. As for parties within Homerton, 'bops' are a popular event where everyone gets dressed up in costume and heads down to the Great Hall for a disco.

Wider social life

Homerton is well located for a number of other social amenities; it is just a 20-minute walk to Mill Road where you can find locally-owned restaurants, busy bars and a number of independent venues. We are only a 25-minute walk from the station, where you can catch a 45-minute train to London.
