Access and Outreach

Homerton College is committed to encouraging the very best students to apply to the University of Cambridge.

Widening participation

Homerton College is committed to encouraging the very best students to apply to the University of Cambridge.

We welcome all students with the academic potential and enthusiasm to succeed, regardless of their school or background. Homerton is an inclusive and welcoming environment. We value diversity and we want to help our students to reach their full potential and have a positive impact on the world. Our aim is to raise students’ aspirations and educational potential by giving tailored advice and guidance at all stages of school education. We remain dedicated to ensuring all those who apply are treated fairly, and that fair access to the University is promoted and sustained.

The College offers information, advice and guidance in many different ways to ensure no student is discouraged from applying to us. We can offer extensive support, and dispel myths about financial barriers and the 'typical' Cambridge student. Our support covers a wide range of areas, from the time you start to think about higher education to detailed admissions and application workshops, to our extensive tri-annual Homerton College Access Course, a nine-week programme of weekly themed webinars and interactive workshops guiding students through the Cambridge application process.

Our full time School and College Liaison Officer, Eve Sergeant, is available to offer support to students and schools throughout the year and to answer any questions. Contact Eve at access@homerton.cam.ac.uk.

Visiting Homerton in 2021

Although we still cannot provide in-person school visits due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have adapted and developed our access and outreach sessions so that they can be delivered virtually through Zoom webinars for up to 500 students. If you are a teacher or HE advisor and would like to register your interest for a webinar for your students, please do so via our booking link, or email our Schools Liaisons Officer at access@homerton.cam.ac.uk. We hope to resume school visits towards the end of the year.

If you are a potential applicant or an offer-holder and would like to visit the College, we are running tours of Homerton this summer, which will be led by current Homerton students to small groups (a maximum of six). To book your slot, please click here.

The Cambridge Foundation Year

Homerton will be one of a number of Colleges to welcome Cambridge Foundation Year students in October 2022, as part of the University’s landmark programme.

The Cambridge Foundation Year is a free and fully-funded one-year residential course designed to offer a stepping-stone to Cambridge for those who have experienced educational disadvantage.

If you want to study courses in the Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences, are ordinarily resident in the UK, and circumstances have prevented you from realising your academic potential, this opportunity shouldn't be missed. Students will have the option of studying at Homerton or one of the other participating Colleges and will benefit from the community, support and academic stimulation this offers, an intrinsic part of the Cambridge experience.

Further information on applying to the Foundation Year Programme and the programme’s course structure and content may be found on the Foundation Year Website.
